  3. Add the egg and flour and mix well until a pliable mixture forms. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Form the mixture into small, flat patties.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Fry the fish cakes in batches for about 3-4 minutes per side, until golden brown and crispy.
  6. Drain on paper towels and serve immediately, often with a spicy dipping sauce.
