Jamaican Fried Dumplings

Ingredients
- 2 Tassen All-purpose flour
- 1 Teelöffel Baking powder
- 1/2 Teelöffel Salt
- 1 Esslöffel Sugar (optional)
- 1/2 Tasse Water (approx.)
- 1 Esslöffel Vegetable oil (for dough)
- 2 Tassen Vegetable oil (for frying)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, and optional sugar.
- Add the 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil to the flour mixture and mix well.
- Gradually add water and knead into a firm but pliable dough. Do not over-knead.
- Divide the dough into 8-10 equal pieces and shape them into flat round or oval discs.
- Heat the remaining vegetable oil in a deep pot or skillet over medium heat (about 170-175°C / 340-350°F).
- Carefully place the dough discs into the hot oil and fry in batches.
- Fry until golden brown and crispy on each side, flipping once.
- Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- Serve hot.
