Puerto Rican Quesitos
Quesitos are sweet, flaky pastries from Puerto Rico, filled with sweetened cream cheese. They are a popular breakfast or afternoon snack, offering a delightful balance of sweetness and crispy texture.

Ingredients
- 1 Packung (ca. 400g) Puff pastry, thawed
- 225g Cream cheese, softened
- 100g Powdered sugar
- 1 TL Vanilla extract
- 1 Large egg, beaten
- 2 EL Water
- 50g Powdered sugar (for glaze)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, mix softened cream cheese, 100g powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Unroll the thawed puff pastry on a lightly floured surface and cut into 12 squares.
- Place a spoonful of the cream cheese filling in the center of each puff pastry square.
- Fold each square diagonally to form a triangle and press the edges with a fork to seal.
- Place the quesitos on the prepared baking sheet. Whisk the beaten egg with 1 tablespoon of water and brush the tops of the quesitos.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed up.
- While the quesitos are baking, prepare a simple glaze by mixing 50g powdered sugar with 1 tablespoon of water. As soon as the quesitos come out of the oven, brush them with the glaze.
