- 2 Tassen All-purpose flour
- 2 Teelöffel Baking powder
- 1/2 Teelöffel Salt
- 2 Esslöffel Sugar
- 2 Esslöffel Butter (cold, cubed)
- 3/4 Tasse Milk (or water, approx.)
- 2 Tassen Vegetable oil (for frying)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
- Cut the cold butter into the flour mixture using your fingertips until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Gradually add milk and knead into a soft, pliable dough. The dough should be slightly sticky.
- Let the dough rest for about 15 minutes.
- On a lightly floured surface, divide the dough into 8-10 equal pieces and roll into flat round or oval shapes (about 1/2 cm thick).
- Heat the vegetable oil in a deep pot or skillet over medium heat (about 170-175°C / 340-350°F).
- Carefully place the dough discs into the hot oil and fry in batches.
- Fry until golden brown and puffed, flipping once.
- Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- Serve hot, often sliced open and filled.
