Guava and Cheese Pastries (Cuba)
These Cuban pastries, known as Pastelitos de Guayaba y Queso, are a delicious combination of sweet guava paste and savory cream cheese, baked in a flaky puff pastry. They are a popular dessert or snack, perfect with a cup of coffee.

Ingredients
- 1 Packung (ca. 400g) Puff pastry, store-bought
- 200g Guava paste
- 150g Cream cheese (Philadelphia style), softened
- 2 EL Granulated sugar
- 1 Large egg, beaten
- 1 EL Water
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll out the puff pastry and cut into approximately 10x10 cm (4x4 inch) squares.
- Cut the guava paste into thin slices or small cubes. Beat the cream cheese with sugar until smooth.
- Place a dollop of cream cheese mixture and a piece of guava paste in the center of half of the puff pastry squares.
- Moisten the edges of the squares with a little water. Place the other half of the puff pastry squares on top and press the edges with a fork to seal.
- Brush the tops of the pastries with the beaten egg.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.
- Let cool on a wire rack and serve warm or at room temperature.
