Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. On a lightly floured surface, unroll the thawed puff pastry. Size may vary, but aim for about 1/8 inch (3mm) thick. If pastry comes in 2 sheets, unroll both.
  3. Cut each puff pastry sheet into 6 squares (for a total of 12 pastelitos if using 2 sheets).
  4. Place a teaspoon of guava paste and optionally half a teaspoon of cream cheese in the center of each square.
  5. Carefully fold the corners of the pastry over the filling to form a triangle or square, pressing the edges with a fork to seal.
  6. Place the pastelitos on the prepared baking sheet and brush with the beaten egg wash.
  7. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.
  8. Remove from oven and let cool on a wire rack. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
