Chocolate Bread

Pain au Chocolat is a classic French pastry made from puff pastry and two sticks of dark chocolate. It's sweet, buttery, and has a wonderfully airy texture, perfect for a French breakfast.

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F) conventional heat.
  2. Unroll the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface and cut into 8 equal rectangles.
  3. Place one chocolate stick on the bottom edge of each rectangle, roll once, then place the second chocolate stick on top and roll completely.
  4. Place the Pain au Chocolat on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  5. Brush the beaten egg (mixed with a little milk if desired) over the pastries.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, until golden brown and puffed up.
  7. Optionally sprinkle with a little sugar and serve warm.
