Ingredients
- 300g All-purpose flour
- 50g Sugar
- 5g Active dry yeast
- 1 Prise Pinch of salt
- 150ml Lukewarm milk
- 50g Unsalted butter, softened
- 1 Egg (medium)
- 1 TL Vanilla extract
- 1 Egg yolk (for brushing)
- 1 EL Milk (for brushing)
Instructions
- Combine flour, sugar, active dry yeast, and salt in a large bowl.
- Add lukewarm milk, egg, and vanilla extract, mixing until a shaggy dough forms.
- Gradually knead in the softened butter until a smooth, elastic dough forms. This will take about 10-15 minutes.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
- Gently deflate the dough and divide it into 6-8 equal pieces. Shape each piece into an oval roll.
- Place the rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, cover, and let rise for another 30-45 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Whisk egg yolk with 1 tablespoon of milk and brush over the rolls.
- Bake the Pain au Lait for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Let cool on a wire rack and serve warm.
