Ingredients
- 1/2 1/2 baguette or 4 slices of country bread
- 50g Unsalted butter, softened
- 4 EL High-quality strawberry jam
- optional Orange marmalade
- optional Honey
Instructions
- First, slice the fresh baguette or country bread into even pieces, about 1 to 2 cm thick. Ensure the slices aren't too thin, as they might become overly dry when toasted. If using a baguette, cut it on the bias to create a larger surface area for toppings.
- Next, toast the bread slices until they are golden brown and crispy. You can use a toaster (approx. 2-3 minutes on medium setting), a broiler (at 200°C for about 1-2 minutes per side, flipping the bread slices), or a non-stick pan without fat over medium heat (approx. 1-2 minutes per side). Be careful not to burn them.
- Once the bread slices are perfectly toasted, carefully remove them from the toaster, oven, or pan. Arrange the warm, crispy slices appealingly on serving plates. The warmth is crucial for the butter to melt beautifully later, allowing the flavors to develop optimally.
- Generously spread the room-temperature, unsalted butter on each toasted bread slice. Its soft consistency makes it easy to spread and melt slightly on the warm bread. A thick layer of butter provides the perfect base for the fruity topping and ensures a creamy texture.
- Now for your favorite sweet topping: generously spread high-quality strawberry jam, or optionally tangy orange marmalade or sweet honey, over the butter. Ensure an even distribution so that every bite contains both butter and the sweet spread, allowing the flavors to harmonize perfectly.
- Serve your tartines or toasts immediately while they are still lukewarm and the butter is slightly melted. They taste excellent for breakfast or brunch, especially when accompanied by a cup of strong Café au Lait or an aromatic tea. A true delight to start your day.
