Ingredients
- 3-4 Stück Saba Bananas (or plantains)
- 12 Blätter Spring roll wrappers
- 80 g Brown sugar
- 100 g Jackfruit (canned, drained and sliced)
- 500 ml Vegetable oil (for frying)
- 2 EL Water (for sealing spring rolls)
- 1 Prise Salt
- 2 EL Powdered sugar (for dusting, optional)
Instructions
- Peel the saba bananas and halve them lengthwise. If they are very large, they can also be quartered. Prepare the jackfruit strips.
- Roll each banana piece and a few jackfruit strips in brown sugar until evenly coated. Add a pinch of salt.
- Lay a spring roll wrapper on a clean surface. Place a piece of sugared banana and some sugared jackfruit on one end. Roll the wrapper tightly, fold in the sides, then seal the end with a dab of water.
- In a deep pot or fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 170°C (340°F). The oil is hot enough when a small crumb of dough sizzles immediately.
- Fry the turons in batches until golden brown and crispy, turning them regularly to ensure even cooking. This will take about 3-5 minutes per batch.
- Remove the fried turons from the oil with a slotted spoon and drain them on a paper towel-lined plate to remove excess oil.
- Optionally, dust the warm turons with a little powdered sugar and serve immediately. They are best enjoyed fresh and warm.
