Instructions

  1. Peel the saba bananas and halve them lengthwise. If they are very large, they can also be quartered. Prepare the jackfruit strips.
  2. Roll each banana piece and a few jackfruit strips in brown sugar until evenly coated. Add a pinch of salt.
  3. Lay a spring roll wrapper on a clean surface. Place a piece of sugared banana and some sugared jackfruit on one end. Roll the wrapper tightly, fold in the sides, then seal the end with a dab of water.
  4. In a deep pot or fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 170°C (340°F). The oil is hot enough when a small crumb of dough sizzles immediately.
  5. Fry the turons in batches until golden brown and crispy, turning them regularly to ensure even cooking. This will take about 3-5 minutes per batch.
  6. Remove the fried turons from the oil with a slotted spoon and drain them on a paper towel-lined plate to remove excess oil.
  7. Optionally, dust the warm turons with a little powdered sugar and serve immediately. They are best enjoyed fresh and warm.
