Breakfast Tteokbokki
This Tteok-bokki breakfast is a delicious and satisfying way to start your day, with chewy rice cakes in a spicy gochujang sauce.

Ingredients
- 300g Rice cakes (Tteokbokki-tteok)
- 2 EL Gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 1 EL Sugar
- 100g Fish cakes (Eomuk)
- 200ml Water or Dashi broth
- 1 EL Soy sauce
- 1 TL Garlic, minced
- 1/2 Onion, medium, sliced
- 1 Green onion, sliced
- 1 TL Sesame oil
- 1 EL Roasted sesame seeds
- 2 Eggs, boiled (optional)
Instructions
- If necessary, soak the rice cakes in water to soften them. In a pot, bring water or Dashi broth to a boil.
- Add gochujang, sugar, soy sauce, and minced garlic, stirring well until the paste has dissolved.
- Add the soaked rice cakes, fish cakes, and sliced onion to the sauce. Bring everything to a simmer.
- Continue to simmer the sauce for about 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it has thickened and the rice cakes are soft and chewy.
- Before serving, garnish with green onion slices, optional boiled eggs, and roasted sesame seeds. Drizzle with a dash of sesame oil.
