  1. If necessary, soak the rice cakes in water to soften them. In a pot, bring water or Dashi broth to a boil.
  2. Add gochujang, sugar, soy sauce, and minced garlic, stirring well until the paste has dissolved.
  3. Add the soaked rice cakes, fish cakes, and sliced onion to the sauce. Bring everything to a simmer.
  4. Continue to simmer the sauce for about 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it has thickened and the rice cakes are soft and chewy.
  5. Before serving, garnish with green onion slices, optional boiled eggs, and roasted sesame seeds. Drizzle with a dash of sesame oil.
