  1. Pour the unsweetened soy milk into a medium saucepan and heat over medium heat until hot, but not boiling. Stir occasionally to prevent scorching.
  2. Add the sugar and a pinch of salt. Stir until the sugar has completely dissolved. Taste and adjust sweetness as desired.
  3. While the soy milk is heating, you can gently warm the Youtiao if desired. This can be done in a dry pan over medium heat for 2-3 minutes until crispy, or briefly in the microwave for 30 seconds.
  4. Pour the warm soy milk into two serving bowls. Sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds and add a small amount of grated ginger for an extra aromatic kick.
  5. Serve the warm soy milk immediately with the crispy Youtiao for dipping. Enjoy this traditional Chinese breakfast that is both filling and comforting.
  6. For a touch of heat, you may optionally add a teaspoon of chili oil.
  7. For added freshness and a nice color contrast, sprinkle with chopped spring onions.
