Ingredients
- 8 Scheiben stale bread (brioche or white bread)
- 2 large eggs
- 250 ml whole milk
- 50 g sugar
- 1 TL vanilla extract
- Prise pinch of salt
- 30 g butter
- 200 g mixed berries (fresh or frozen)
- 2 EL lemon juice
- 1 EL powdered sugar (for dusting)
Instructions
- In a shallow dish, whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt.
- Dip each slice of bread into the mixture until well soaked but not falling apart. About 20-30 seconds per side.
- For the berry compote, bring the berries and lemon juice to a simmer in a small saucepan over medium heat. Simmer for about 5-7 minutes until the berries are soft and a compote consistency forms.
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat and melt the butter in it.
- Place the soaked bread slices in the skillet and fry until golden brown on each side, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- Arrange the Pain Perdu on plates, drizzle with the berry compote, and dust with powdered sugar.
