  1. Peel and quarter the potatoes, then boil in salted water until tender (approx. 15-20 minutes).
  2. While potatoes cook, heat olive oil in a large skillet. Sauté onion and garlic until softened.
  3. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon. Drain any excess fat.
  4. Stir in tomato paste and thyme, then add beef broth and simmer for 5-7 minutes until the sauce slightly thickens. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Drain the cooked potatoes. Add butter and milk, then mash until smooth. Season with salt and pepper.
  6. Spoon the beef mixture into an oven-safe dish. Spread the mashed potatoes evenly on top and sprinkle with grated cheese.
  7. Bake in a preheated oven at 190°C (375°F) for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbly.
