Kokkinisto (Beef in Red Sauce)

Ingredients
- 1 kg Beef stew meat
- 2 Onions, chopped
- 3 Zehen Garlic cloves, minced
- 800g Crushed tomatoes
- 150ml Red wine
- 100ml Olive oil
- 2 Bay leaves
- 1 TL Dried oregano
- 1/2 TL Cinnamon (optional)
- Salz Salt
- Pfeffer Pepper
Instructions
- Cube the beef and season with salt and pepper.
- Heat olive oil in a large pot. Sear the beef in batches and set aside.
- Sauté onions and garlic in the same pot.
- Deglaze with red wine and let it reduce.
- Add crushed tomatoes, bay leaves, oregano, and cinnamon (if using).
- Return the seared beef to the pot. Add enough water or broth to almost cover the meat.
- Bring to a boil, then reduce heat, cover, and simmer for at least 2 hours, until the meat is very tender.
- Remove bay leaves before serving. Season with salt and pepper.
