Ingredients
- 250 g Cheese (e.g., Kefalotyri, Graviera, or Halloumi)
- 50 g All-purpose flour
- 2 EL Olive oil
- 1 Lemon
- 1/4 TL Freshly ground black pepper
- 1 Prise Salt
- Einige Zweige Fresh flat-leaf parsley
- Optional Bread for serving
Instructions
- Slice the cheese into approximately 1.5 to 2 cm thick pieces. Ensure the slices are uniform in thickness for even cooking.
- Place the flour in a shallow dish. Lightly dredge each cheese slice on both sides with flour. The flour helps create a crispy crust and prevents the cheese from melting too quickly in the pan.
- Heat the olive oil in a medium-sized skillet over medium-high heat. The oil should be shimmering but not smoking.
- Carefully place the floured cheese slices into the hot pan. Avoid overcrowding the pan to ensure even browning.
- Fry the cheese for approximately 2-3 minutes per side. Carefully flip the cheese with a spatula once it is golden brown and crispy and begins to soften. Fry the other side until it is also golden brown.
- Immediately remove the fried cheese from the pan and place it on a serving plate. Season with a pinch of salt and freshly ground black pepper, if desired.
- Cut the lemon and squeeze the juice from half over the hot saganaki. The lemon juice provides a fresh contrast to the rich cheese flavor. Serve immediately, garnished with fresh parsley if desired.
