Ingredients
- 400g Canned chickpeas
- 2 Zehen Garlic
- 1 Lemon
- 3 EL Olive oil
- 1 TL Ground cumin
- 1/2 Bund Fresh parsley
- 1/4 TL Cayenne pepper (optional)
- 1 Prise Salt
- 1 Prise Black pepper
- 4 Pita breads
- 1 EL Pomegranate seeds
- 1 EL Fresh mint, chopped
Instructions
- Rinse the canned chickpeas thoroughly under cold water to remove excess brine. Then, warm them in a small saucepan over medium heat for about 5 minutes, until heated through.
- While the chickpeas are warming, peel and finely mince or crush the garlic cloves. Halve the lemon and squeeze out the juice. Roughly chop the fresh parsley.
- In a small bowl, combine the minced garlic, lemon juice, and olive oil. Add the ground cumin, cayenne pepper (if using), salt, and black pepper, and mix well to create the dressing.
- Drain the warm chickpeas and transfer them to a serving bowl. Pour the prepared dressing over the chickpeas.
- Gently stir the chickpeas to ensure they are fully coated with the dressing. Then, garnish with the chopped fresh parsley and fresh mint.
- Optionally, add pomegranate seeds for an extra touch of sweetness and texture.
- Serve the Balila immediately while warm, accompanied by fresh pita bread. The pita bread can be used for dipping into the flavorful sauce.
