Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Rinse the canned chickpeas thoroughly under cold water to remove excess brine. Then, warm them in a small saucepan over medium heat for about 5 minutes, until heated through.
  2. While the chickpeas are warming, peel and finely mince or crush the garlic cloves. Halve the lemon and squeeze out the juice. Roughly chop the fresh parsley.
  3. In a small bowl, combine the minced garlic, lemon juice, and olive oil. Add the ground cumin, cayenne pepper (if using), salt, and black pepper, and mix well to create the dressing.
  4. Drain the warm chickpeas and transfer them to a serving bowl. Pour the prepared dressing over the chickpeas.
  5. Gently stir the chickpeas to ensure they are fully coated with the dressing. Then, garnish with the chopped fresh parsley and fresh mint.
  6. Optionally, add pomegranate seeds for an extra touch of sweetness and texture.
  7. Serve the Balila immediately while warm, accompanied by fresh pita bread. The pita bread can be used for dipping into the flavorful sauce.
