Ingredients
- 300g All-purpose flour
- 7g Active dry yeast
- 1 TL Sugar
- 1/2 TL Salt
- 180ml Lukewarm water
- 4 EL Zaatar mixture
- 4 EL Extra virgin olive oil
- Optional zum Servieren Fresh mint and cucumber slices (optional, for serving)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine flour, active dry yeast, sugar, and salt. Gradually add the lukewarm water and knead everything into a smooth dough. Knead vigorously for at least 5-7 minutes.
- Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes, or until its volume has doubled.
- Preheat the oven to 220°C (425°F) top/bottom heat. Divide the risen dough into four equal portions and roll each portion into a thin, round flatbread (approx. 15-20 cm diameter).
- In a small bowl, mix the zaatar mixture with the olive oil until a spreadable paste forms. Spread this mixture generously over the rolled flatbreads, leaving a small border.
- Place the Manakeesh on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake on the middle rack in the preheated oven for 8-12 minutes, until the edges are golden brown and crispy.
- Serve the freshly baked Manakeesh immediately, optionally garnished with fresh mint and cucumber slices.
