Pastitsio (Small Portion)
Pastitsio is a popular Greek baked pasta dish featuring layers of pasta, a spiced meat sauce, and a creamy béchamel topping. A smaller portion in the morning offers a filling and flavorful meal.

Ingredients
- 250g Pastitsio noodles (or macaroni)
- 400g Ground beef
- 1 Onion, chopped
- 2 Knoblauchzehen, gehackt Garlic cloves, minced
- 400g Crushed tomatoes
- 1 TL Cinnamon
- 1/2 TL Ground cloves
- Salz und Pfeffer Salt and pepper to taste
- 50g Butter
- 50g Flour
- 500ml Milk
- 2 Eggs, beaten
- 50g Grated Kefalotyri or Parmesan cheese
- Olivenöl Olive oil for sautéing
Instructions
- Cook pasta according to package directions, drain, and set aside.
- Heat olive oil in a pan, sauté onion and garlic. Add ground beef and cook until crumbly.
- Add crushed tomatoes, cinnamon, cloves, salt, and pepper. Simmer until the sauce thickens.
- For the béchamel: Melt butter in a saucepan, add flour, and stir for 1 minute (roux).
- Gradually whisk in milk until a smooth sauce forms. Cook until thickened.
- Remove from heat, stir in beaten eggs and cheese. Season with salt and pepper.
- Grease a baking dish (approx. 20x20 cm).
- Layer half the pasta, then the meat sauce, then the remaining pasta.
- Pour the béchamel sauce evenly over the top.
- Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 45-50 minutes, until the top is golden brown.
