Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Halve the pita breads to create pockets, or cut them into quarters, depending on the desired serving size; this ensures maximum surface area for coating.
  2. In a small bowl, thoroughly mix the extra virgin olive oil, granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, and a pinch of sea salt. Add 2 tablespoons of warm water and stir until the sugar has largely dissolved and a slightly syrupy consistency is achieved.
  3. Generously brush the inside surfaces of the pita pieces with the olive oil-sugar mixture. Ensure all surfaces are evenly coated to achieve beautiful browning and caramelized edges.
  4. Place the prepared pita pieces on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake in the preheated oven for 5-7 minutes, until lightly crisp and golden brown; watch them closely towards the end of the baking time to prevent burning.
  5. Alternatively, the pita pieces can be toasted in a hot pan without additional fat over medium heat for about 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown, offering a quicker preparation option.
  6. Remove the pita pieces from the oven or pan and let them cool briefly, but serve them warm to ensure the best flavor and texture.
  7. Optionally, dust the pita pieces with a little powdered sugar and garnish with fresh mint leaves before serving to add an extra layer of sweetness and an aromatic element.
