Ingredients
- 2 Stück Pita Breads (unsweetened)
- 3 EL Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- 2 EL Granulated Sugar
- 1/2 TL Cinnamon (ground)
- 1 Prise Sea Salt
- Nach Geschmack Powdered Sugar
- Nach Geschmack Fresh Mint Leaves
- 2 EL Water (warm)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Halve the pita breads to create pockets, or cut them into quarters, depending on the desired serving size; this ensures maximum surface area for coating.
- In a small bowl, thoroughly mix the extra virgin olive oil, granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, and a pinch of sea salt. Add 2 tablespoons of warm water and stir until the sugar has largely dissolved and a slightly syrupy consistency is achieved.
- Generously brush the inside surfaces of the pita pieces with the olive oil-sugar mixture. Ensure all surfaces are evenly coated to achieve beautiful browning and caramelized edges.
- Place the prepared pita pieces on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake in the preheated oven for 5-7 minutes, until lightly crisp and golden brown; watch them closely towards the end of the baking time to prevent burning.
- Alternatively, the pita pieces can be toasted in a hot pan without additional fat over medium heat for about 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown, offering a quicker preparation option.
- Remove the pita pieces from the oven or pan and let them cool briefly, but serve them warm to ensure the best flavor and texture.
- Optionally, dust the pita pieces with a little powdered sugar and garnish with fresh mint leaves before serving to add an extra layer of sweetness and an aromatic element.
