Ingredients
- 500g All-purpose flour
- 10g Active dry yeast
- 250ml Lukewarm water
- 50g Sugar
- 1 Egg
- 1 Prise Salt
- 100ml Olive oil (for dough)
- Pflanzenöl zum Frittieren Vegetable oil for frying
- Für den Sirup: For the syrup:
- 500g Sugar
- 250ml Water
- 1 Lemon slice
Instructions
- Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water with a pinch of sugar and let sit for 10 minutes.
- Mix flour, sugar, and salt in a large bowl.
- Add the yeast mixture, egg, and olive oil. Knead into a soft, elastic dough.
- Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, until doubled in size.
- For the syrup, mix sugar and water in a saucepan. Add the lemon slice and bring to a boil. Simmer for 5 minutes, then remove from heat and let cool.
- Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface and cut into small strips or squares.
- Heat oil in a deep pot. Fry the dough pieces in batches until golden brown and puffy (about 2-3 minutes per side).
- Remove the fried dough pieces with a slotted spoon and immediately place them in the cooled syrup. Let soak for a few minutes.
- Remove the saiten from the syrup and let drain on a rack.
- Serve warm or at room temperature.
